The Castello Sforzesco, or Sforza Castle, is a popular stop for tourists today not only because it houses several of the city’s museums, but also because the castle itself is a beautiful building that dates from the 14th century. The castle is located just to the northwest of the city centre, and due to its location near the commercial district.
The castle complex is dominated by the lovely Torre del Filarete, which is directly across the courtyard from the main gate. Inside the Sforza Castle you can visit the Pinacoteca del Castello Sforzesco, the current civic museum. There you’ll find the last sculpture Michelangelo did, the Rondanini Pieta. Other museums in the complex include the Museum of Musical Instruments, the Museum of Ancient Art, the Furniture Museum, and prehistoric collections from the Archaeological Museum.
