Hotels in Naples
The province of Naples is located in the southern Italian region of Campania. It is a very ancient area and conserves many archaeological remains dating to Greek and Roman times. Tourists flock to the ancient towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum to visit the well-preserved remains of people and a culture buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Today, Mount Vesuvius itself can still be climbed, though only up to a certain point. The three islands of Ischia, Procida, and Capri are also very popular tourist destinations for their beach resorts and diving and boat excursions. The capital city of the province, also called Naples, is rich in historical monuments and tourist attractions. Check out Palazzo Reale, or the Royal Palace, which faces the impressive Piazza Plebiscito, and the entire historical center of the city. You should also check out the town of Sorrento; sights here include its historical center, surrounded by 15th century defensive walls. If you happen to find yourself in the area of the most densely populated Italian province during the weekend, Naples might be a good place to check out.
