Anacapri tourism is not only based on its historical monuments; indeed, many tourists are attracted to this island town for its wonderful scenery and its beautiful beaches. One of the most popular beaches in the town is Punta Carena, located at the extreme southwestern end of the island of Capri. At its back, you’ll find the precipice called “La Migliera”, which is lined with defensive walls constructed by the English at the beginning of the 1800s to protect the island of Capri. Besides the defensive walls, the beach possesses an important monument, Il Faro, or The Lighthouse. This lighthouse is an octagonal tower constructed around the year 1866 and is one of the most important lighthouses in the Tyrrhenian Sea; it is the second most powerful lighthouse in Italy.

These structures function as backdrops for the beach establishments that are located along the rocks of Punta Carena. There are a number of establishments, each located on convenient “terraces”, with iron steps to get down to the water. The depth of the water drops dramatically to roughly 600 meters only about 500 meters from the coast. Punta Carena beach is a popular spot, especially for young people; indeed, the sun sets on the water here, making it a romantic location, while the more active individuals will enjoy the vibrant night life.
