Just behind the Naples Cathedral (Duomo) is the Archbishop’s Palace (Palazzo Arcivescovile). As the name would suggest, it is the home of Naples’ Roman Catholic archbishop and cardinal. It is located on the largo Donna Regina, but the palace is actually part of the Cathedral’s complex. Across the street from the palace is the church of Donna Regina Nuovo. A number of budget hotels near the Archbishop’s Palace in Naples are available since this area is such a popular tourist destination. Choosing one of these discount hotels in Naples close to the Archbishop’s Palace means that you’ll be in the center of one of the busiest, most active areas in Naples.
The palace is built on the site where an early Christian basilica once stood. It was built in 1389 but was then expanded and renovated in the 1650s. It was the cardinal Errico Capece Minutolo who asked that the palace be built as his residence, and it has filled that role ever since. The entire complex can be easily reached by taking the metro to the Piazza Cavour stop.
