One of the ancient and interesting sites in Naples to visit is the Catacombs of San Gennaro. The catacombs are located underground and are a very important burial site for the city.

The Catacombs of San Gennaro stretch two levels and are large and spacious passageways, with the lower of the two levels being the older and possibly more interesting of the two. Before the multiple cemeteries were combined into one they were each dedicated to a saint including Saint Gaudiosus, Saint Severus, and Saint Januarius. The catacombs contain some superb frescoes painted on the large walls as well.
