The ancient Italians and Greeks called this small island Nesis, or the Little Island. Today, you can visit the small volcanic island. Brutus was not the only important Roman who dwelt on the island. Lucius Lincinius Lucullus also built his own villa there. Later centuries saw the construction of a castle. This 16th century structure was built as part of the fief of the Macedonio family. The best-known owners of the island were the Bourbons. This French monarchy had a notorious prison on the island.
