The tiny town of Santa Cristina Gela, found in the farmlands a few dozen kilometers from Sicily's city of Palermo, has fewer than 1,000 residents. This village is highly agricultural, having been founded by four farming families in the late 17th century. Today, the local dialect is a unique mix of Albanian, Italian and Sicilian, though masses in this Catholic town are still given in Latin. Washed in pink, with a bell-tower, clock and modest rosette window, the rustic church dates back to the 18th century, when the Byzantine Mass was abandoned in Santa Cristina Gela. Cheap hotels, or any other type, can be hard to come by in such a small town, though rates are usually very reasonable compared with much of Palermo, about 25km to the north-east. There is a bus that runs between the city and the center of Santa Cristina Gela. Hotels do tend to have swimming pools, though they can still be quite hot in the summer season.

There are several natural attractions near the village, with the artificial Laggo Piana degli Albanesi drawing many during the summer months. In the village proper, the Palazzina Musacchia is one of the most notable historic homes, open for tours. Hotels in Santa Cristina Gela are easy to find when using an online booking service such as EasyToBook.com. For those seeking discount hotels, Santa Cristina Gela has several options, especially for such a small town, often featuring a restaurant, too.
