Home of the Catholic patron Saint Rita, Cascia is a small town of about 3,000 residents, hidden in the mountains of the province of Perugia. Having been beatified in 1900, the story goes that Rita Lotti desired to become a nun from a young age, but was instead married off by her parents. When her husband was brutally murdered—some stories say for his terrible cruelty—she managed to become a nun. Various miracles, including are attributed to her during her life and after by those appealing to her in prayer. The Basilica and Monastery dedicated to her today are certainly renowned the world over.

Many other sites in Cascia are of Italian historical significance as well. The Church of St. Francis was designed in the Gothic style and contains a large rose-window. The baroque-style Church of St. Anthony dates back to the 15th century and holds a cycle of paintings illustrating the life of St. Anthony. The Church of St. Mary is possibly the city's oldest building, with a cross from the 15th century inside. The Church of St. Augustine holds frescoes from the Umbrian and Perugian schools of art. These are just a few of the wonderfully preserved places to visit in Cascia that can be visited by booking today on EasyToBook.com.
