Home of the Catholic patron Saint Rita, Cascia is a small town of about 3,000 residents, hidden in the mountains of the province of Perugia. Having been beatified in 1900, the story goes that Rita Lotti desired to become a nun from a young age, but was instead married off by her parents. When her husband was brutally murdered—some stories say for his terrible cruelty—she managed to become a nun. Various miracles, including are attributed to her during her life and after by those appealing to her in prayer.
