With just over 4,000 residents, the Marches town of Acqualagna is perhaps best known for its world famous truffles, of which, several varieties are found nearby. Built on the site of the ancient Roman town of Pitinum Mergens, as evidenced by the archaeological site of Villa di Colombara, which lies a short trip from the city center and several Acqualagna hotels.
