Piacenza Hotels and Accommodation
The province of Piacenza is located in the northern Italian region of Emilia-Romagna. The majority of the province is located on the Padana Plain, but it’s bordered on the south by the Ligurian Apennines. Within the province, there is the Monte del Moria – della Freccia Nera Natural Park, which contains a number of outdoor itineraries for those tourists that enjoy walking and hiking. The capital city of the province, also called Piacenza, was founded in 218 BC by the Romans; it is one of the oldest Roman colonies in Italy. This city is one of the major cities of art in Italy and boasts a wealth of artistic and historical monuments.
Piacenza sights include a number of “palazzi”, or noble buildings, erected in different time periods to house nobles and show off their wealth; of particular note is Palazzo Comunale, also called Palazzo Gotico, built in 1281. Also worth visiting is the Cathedral, built in the 1100s and an important example of Romanesque architecture. If you want to make the most out of your northern Italian weekend, Piacenza is a good place to start.
