The province of Pordenone is located in the northern Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. There are three natural parks within the province: the Dolomiti Friulane – Cimolais Natural Park, the Foresta del Prescudin Natural Reserve and the Forra del Cellina – Barcis Natural Reserve. Immersed in this natural beauty is one of the most popular tourist destinations of the province of Pordenone, Piancavallo, in the town of Aviano. Piancavallo was the first ski resort in Italy to install a system for the creation of artificial snow; the resort organizes a number of alpine and cross country ski competitions throughout the winter. There are also trails for snowboarding and snow tubing. The province also offers a number of historical monuments; indeed, there are various itineraries aimed at visiting the medieval castles that populate the area. The capital city, also called Pordenone, is worth a visit for its artistic sights. Pordenone attractions include the Cathedral, built in 1363, Palazzo Comunale, built in 1291, and Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, the main street of the historical center, lined with buildings from the Gothic and Renaissance periods.
