Hotels in Potenza
The province of Potenza is located in the southern region of Basilicata. The province is composed of a number of different habitats, from forests to beaches. One of the most popular locations in the province is Maratea, a beautiful beach town with cliffs and clear beaches; the town is also known for a large statue of Christ the Savior, 22 meters high, that sits atop a cliff overlooking the port. Theres also a natural park, the Parco Nazionale del Pollino, which is the largest natural park in the country. The capital city of the province, also called Potenza, has a historical center worth checking out. Visit the Cathedral, built in the 12th century and restructured in the 1700's, and the remains of the castle, most likely built around the year 1000 by the Lombards. Head to the town of Rapolla for some more history. Rapolla sights include the small church of Santa Lucia, built between the 10th and 11th centuries, and the Cathedral, completed in the year 1253. If your southern Italian travels take you into the region of Basilicata for a weekend, Potenza could be a fun place to visit.
