The province of Ragusa is located on the southwestern part of the island of Sicily; part of its border is bathed by the Mediterranean Sea. Most of the province is hilly and the coastline alternates between sandy beaches and rocky ones. Many tourists are attracted to the beaches of the province, which are very well developed. There are also two natural parks in the province: the Riserva Naturale Pino d’Aleppo and the Riserva Naturale Macchia Foresta del Fiume Irminio. Alongside this natural beauty, the province also boasts a rich architectural and artistic heritage; indeed, a number of cities in the province have been declared UNESCO World Heritage Sites, thanks to their Baroque buildings. Take a trip to the town of Vittoria to see the Basilica of San Giovanni Battista, built in the 1600's. Other Vittoria sights include the Vittoria Colonna Theater, built in 1863 in neo-Classical style. When on the island of Sicily for a weekend, Ragusa could be a fun place to check out.
