Bellaria-Igea Marina is a town of about 15,956 permanent residents, located in the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna, along Italy's Adriatic coast. The existence of the old village of Bellaria can be traced back to the Middle Ages. A document from 1359 mentions the village. However, the town in its modern form was conceived in approximately 1900 by Dr. Vittorio Belli, who wanted to create a "rational" holiday village in a pine forest that he himself grew. He named this village Igea Marina after Igea, the daughter of the Greco-Roman god of medicine, Asclepius. The modern town of Bellaria Igea Marina is a popular tourist resort bordering the beach.

One attraction in Bellaria-Igea Marina is the city's commercial center, a district called "L'Isola dei Platani," which is full of restaurants and shops. Another local attraction is the beach of Bellaria, along which magnificent sand castles may be seen, towering over sunbathers. Another attraction is the squarish, four-story Bellaria Torre Saracena, actually built by Roman Catholic Italians (and not by Saracens) in 1673 to defend the town from pirates.
