The Botanic Garden of Rome is an integral part of the Department of Plant Biology of the “La Sapienza” University of Rome. It is located in the park of Villa Corsini, which was once the residence of Christina of Sweden. The garden spans about 12 hectares, contains about two thousand square meters of greenhouse, and is divided into different “habitats”, or environments, that are characterized by particular species of plants. There are a variety of paths within the garden, many of which are characterized by themes, though visitors can pretty much wander around as they like.

There is a “Perfume Garden”, which was designed specifically for the blind; information panels are present in Braille and plants can be touched. There is a laboratory where visitors can observe some of the more intricate details of plants and flowers. As far as the various “sections”, there is an area dedicated to medicinal plants, Mediterranean vegetation, tropical plants, North American forests, and many more. There is even a path aimed at illustrating the evolution of plants. Once you leave the plant world behind, check out Gianicolo hill, the Testaccio district and Flaminio Square.
