The Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere, the most popular gathering places in the area is just a short distance away and is home to the church of Santa Maria in the Trastevere, one of the oldest and most beautiful churches in Rome. Gianicolo Hill rises up behind Trastevere and reaches as far as the Basilica of St. Peter. The panorama is stunning, with the view taking in roofs, ancient ruins, monuments and baroque domes. The area is also well known for Tempietto del Bramante, one of the best examples of Renaissance architecture in Rome and the Botanical Gardens. On the other side of the Gianicolensi walls is Monteverde; a residential area filled with elegant villas making walking these streets a memorable experience. The district is lively at night as it is full of quality restaurants and pizzerias.
