Matisse B&B Rome is conveniently located in the centre of Rome, between Piazza Della Republica and Piazza Venezia. Situated in the heart of the historical centre, on one of Rome's most illustrious shopping streets, guests will delight in the convenience of exploring the Eternal City on foot. Visitors have the privilege of walking within just 8-10 minutes to the Colosseum, Piazza Venezia, the Roman Forum, the Trevi fountain and the Spanish Steps.
How to reach the Matisse B&B?By public transport, from Fiumicino Airport: Arriving from Fiumicino airport, take the "Leonardo" shuttle train to Termini railway station. From here, follow the directions by train below.
By public transport, from Ciampino Airport: If you are arriving from Ciampino airport take a local train or a shuttle bus (Terravision or Schiaffini) up to Termini railway station. From here, follow the directions by train below.
By train: The main railway station, Termini is just a few minutes walk or bus ride from Matisse. Matisse is located at 243 Via Nazionale, just a 10-minute walk from Termini. Exit the station and turn left, walking through Piazza Della Republica and then left onto Via Nazionale. Or take bus lines #64, 40, 70 or 170 to the first “Via Nazionale” stop. Once you get to the building ring both the first and second Matisse Bells. The property is just past the fountain Scala C, 2nd Floor.
By car: Coming from the North, take A1 highway heading towards Rome. Take exit at Roma Nord and then take the GRA (Grande Raccordo Anulare) ring road. Exit at Settebagni and follow the signs for the city center-Termini railway station. Arriving from the south, take A1 highway heading towards Rome. Take exit at Roma Sud then take the GRA( Grande Raccordo Anulare). Exit it Appio S.Giovanni and follow signs for the city center-Termini railway station. Matisse is situated on the main road leading from termini, located at 243 Via Nazionale. Once you get to the building ring both the first and second Matisse Bells. We are just past the fountain Scala C, 2nd Floor.

The staff were friendly helpful when booking in and offered suggestions of places to visit and eat.
The instruction provided from the easytobook web site to gain access to the hotel were by no means clear enough, they said to go to the hotel door, which is difficult to find, then ring the two bells. in fact this is nowhere near correct, you had to ring the intercom on the outside of the building then go in to be met by the owner at the hotel door - more clear and concise instructions must be given when people are in foreign countries. we also tried to call the numbers on the literature, but we couldn’t get through to the hotel and the website number is only available during office hours – is this a good enough service provision? no i think not.
the wrong room was allocated to us on arrival, which looked like a prison cell; although this was rectified on the first night. we ran out of toilet paper during the stay and this simple check doesn't seem to be on the check list during room inspection. milk and bread breakfast provisions, which are supposed to be provided, ran out on the third day of our stay and we had to request more via a note left in the 'kitchen' area, again this simple check during inspection was not carried out. there was only enough hot water for two showers, this was between four rooms, which was fine when we were the only couple staying, but when they had more guests the heating time was not extended even after leaving a note for the owners to do so - not impressed at all.Dillon

The location is excellent. the owner gave good advice on local facilities, restaurants, bus service etc.We had booked in the matisse for 4 nights, we spent 3 in another hotel, which was excellent. our fourth night was in matisse, we did not have a bathroom ensuite, the room was dowdy, and the bed unbelievably hard, most uncomfortable. on reviewing the web site of the other hotel we now know we were overcharged for our four nights. we would not return or recommend the matisse b&b but would recommend the other location.Turnbull

Owner or manager was extremely helpful and friendly. the hotel rooms were spotless and well kept.The rooms we stayed in weren't very sound proof so we were distubed a couple of times with people coming in during the night. Anonymous

Roberto, owner, excellent. rooms very good. hard to get into.Unfortunately they made an error and only booked one room when we had booked 2. we were booked into hotel repubblica for one night which was disgusting, filthy and generally awful. this totally ruined our first night and experience in rome.WINWOOD

We were delighted with the location, and the attentiveness of the host at the hotel. we felt very well looked afer, and genuine concern about making our stay enjoyable. we stayed 2 nights, and then went to florence and were going to return to a different motel in rome, but decided to come back to matisse. Very clean, very central, very helpful owner. good sized room and bathroom. 'tourist tax' not included in quoted price, which was easy to miss on the website, so cost 80 euros higher than expected. room very dark due to window being covered for work outside. breakfast buffet basic, but available 24hrs. jordan

Massive thanks to roberto the b&b owner. he was friendly and informative giving us lots of tips about the city. great location, the room was clean and comfortable with 24hr access to tea and coffee with a great breakfast selection. 10 out of 10, we had a fantastic long weekend.henstell

Central but quiet position. manager very helpful. bedroom very clean.Booked superior en-suite room but room given was not as advertised being neither superior nor en-suite. as only there for one night we didn't want the hassle of finding alternative accomodation but would have walked out if our stay was for longer. "private bathroom" was across a corridor leading off the public lounge/breakfact area to another bedroom. cadogan

The owner, roberto, was extremely friendly and very helpful, particularly when i had a difficulty with the bank. he also gave us very helpful advice about where to visit and when and where were the best places to eat in the evening. the hotel was modern and very well located. our rooms were cleaned on a daily basis and it had good facitilies, both in our b&b, but also other matisse's which we had access to. needham

Roberto, the owner, was very helpful, and informative with regard to places of interest and directions to them.
the location was excellent, hotel room comfortable and clean. the all-day breakfast was much appreciated.There was a bungle with our booking, with the result that there was no room available for the first night. luckily roberto found us a room elsewhere in the same building in which matisse is situated. because it was their fault we were promised that night free (which did not materialise -we were merely exempted from paying the travellers' tax, which did not quite amount to the price of one night's stay).
we were also subjected to a chaotic departure. we had informed roberto that we had to leave a little earlier than the official check-out time in order to catch our train, but that morning roberto could not be contacted (although he had said he would be there). the receptionist was also not around. we were virtually evicted from the building by an irate, red-faced lady, the caretaker (?) of the building who insisted that we could not wait inside but had to wait on the pavement with our luggage. fortunately the receptionist of matisse arrived. she managed to contact roberto by phone, and we settled our account on the pavement, with no time to query the amount he quoted and no receipt given. thank goodness we had the cash. in the confusion and hasty departure we left with the room keys, which we had to post later from venice! Great location, roberto is an amazing host, he goes above and beyond. -would need more info on how to gain access to the b&b. buzz in and wait for the staff to come and open the door for you.
