Trevi Fountain Rome

Sparkling by day and romantic by night, the Trevi Fountain is a lavish oasis in the midst of Rome. The fountain is still supplied by an aqueduct built in Agrioppa in 19 B.C., and was built by Nicola Salvi from a design by Bernini between 1732 and 1751. The gorgeous rocks and waves of the sculpture meld with the gushing waterfalls to create a vibrant base and background for the figure of Neptune and his horses. The fountain is famous as a spot for tourists to guarantee a return to Rome by tossing a coin in. The proper coin tossing form is to stand with your back to the fountain and throw the coin with your right hand over your left shoulder. It makes a wonderful photo opportunity for your scrapbook, and then you can camp out on the steps for awhile with a gelato and look watch the crowds. In wedding season, you may even see a newly married bride and groom come to the fountain for pictures and to toss their coins in with yours. There is another interesting detail of the palace that the fountain is based against. Looking closely at the windows on the story second from the top, pay attention to the window furthest to the right. You'll see that it is not actually a true window, but a painting made to look like a window.
