The Trastevere is a picturesque medieval district located on the west bank of the Tiber. The area is part of the historical centre of Rome and is the perfect place to enjoy the feel of the past while enjoying the lifestyle of today. The district is located almost exactly midway between the Coliseum and the Vatican making the ideal base from which to explore the many sights and attractions of the city. Saint Peter's and the Vatican are about twenty minutes away on foot. Crossing the Tiber you can get to Campo dei Fiori, Piazza Navona, the Spanish Steps, the Roman Forum, and many other sights quickly and easily. Just a few blocks from the apartment, is the outdoor market of Piazza San Cosimato, where stalls display an array of fruits, vegetables and other produce, making the ideal place to pick up goods for those evenings in. The Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere, the most popular gathering places in the area is just a short distance away and is home to the church of Santa Maria in the Trastevere, one of the oldest and most beautiful churches in Rome. Gianicolo Hill rises up behind Trastevere and reaches as far as the Basilica of St. Peter. The panorama is stunning, with the view taking in roofs, ancient ruins, monuments and baroque domes. The area is also well known for Tempietto del Bramante, one of the best examples of Renaissance architecture in Rome and the Botanical Gardens. On the other side of the Gianicolensi walls is Monteverde; a residential area filled with elegant villas making walking these streets a memorable experience.
