Rome is known for its wonderful markets, but not all of them may be open at times when you are actually visiting Rome. A likely exception to this is the market in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele. Located in walking distance or one metro stop away from the Termini train station, this market takes place Monday through Saturday from early morning to early afternoon. Markets are a great way to see a bit of Roman life, and the one here is no exception. In this largest open-air food market in Rome, you'll find a wide variety of fresh fruit, vegetables and other food items. You'll be looking for bargains along with Romans and many member of the immigrant population in Rome. You may not find vendors here who speak English, but if you find something interesting, don't be afraid to just point and gesture. Prices are listed in kilograms. You will find more than just food here though. Stalls are often laden with clothes, household items or little electronic gadgets. Although it might not be the place to do all of your shopping in Rome, it is a great spot to pick up some odds and ends or some fresh fruit for a snack on the go. When you're done browsing through the stalls, if you're still hungry you're in a great area for international cuisine. Either in the piazza or nearby it, you'll find ethnic restaurants of all kinds. This can be a great find if you want to try another version of some of your favorite international foods.
