The Strand Hotel Rome

Pros: The staff at the front desk were helpful and provided maps and advice on tourist activities in rome.

the close proximity of the hotel to the metro was very good and made getting to and from the hotel very easy.

Pros: It was clean and easy to access the train. near a supermarket.
Cons: Confusion regarding our booking stating they had only received one reservation when infact there were two. as a result my dad had to pay an extra 30 euros for a suite room. the room smelt of damp and there was damaged plaster cracking on the floor. the trains made the whole hotel vibrate. the hotel was poorly sign posted. the door to get into the hotel is locked both ways so u need reception to let you in and out.

Pros: The only one good point was that the hotel accepted our negotiations for a reduced rate due to the problems etc and we only paid for 4 out of the 6 nights we stayed there.
Cons: The hotel claimed to have not received our reservation and therefore we had to stay in a private apartment accross the road on our first night, with no hot water after travelling all day, and sharing with 2 teenage girls and their loud playstation etc until 2am. not impressed!

* the hotel also has a non-functioning lift which means 3rd floor guests have to carry their luggage up 6 flights of stairs.
* there is an entry gate to the hotel which does not have a key or codepad so you must be buzzed in by reception staff who are not at the desk half the time

* the road, plane and metro train noise is very loud and makes for a poor night's sleep.

* the hotel's hot water system is often out of order so cold showers are the norm.

* housekeeping smokes in the rooms while cleaning them so that they smell when you return

would certainly not stay there again nor recommend to friends or family.

Pros: Close to metro, man on reception during the day was friendly.
Cons: Area the hotel is located isn't extremely nice. got really lost on the first night and tried calling the reception but the eve staff member didnt speak very good english so couldnt understand what i was saying, after a good five mins on the phone he told me to 'hang on', then came back asking if he could help....think there was a communication break down.

Pros: Excellent value for the price
Cons: Bad smell in the room

Pros: Lovely hotel with a pool (but we did not use it), calm place, very close - 2 minute walk from 2 metro stations. clean room, lovely atmosphere and a lovely bed.
Cons: A bit far from historical center

Pros: Really great hotel, close to rome centre but a little more out of town which allowed for the pool. easy to get to on the metro, line a. 15 minutes from termini station, on the direct line to the vatican and spanish steps. the pool area was very nice, 10 sunloungers and room to sunbathe. a pool bar is under construction but the shade of the swim up bar and seats in the water were nice to enjoy in the meantime!there was only 2 other people at the pool each day apart from my family which was nice. we had a triple room - double bed and camp/pull our bed which was fine. good bathroom with showers and towels. to find the hotel- out of the nuevo quatro station, check road numbers for the even numbers, past the fiat garage and bank on your left coming out of the metro, past the pharmacy. i think it's roughly 2 streets you cross before coming to the hotel which is down a driveway, under a sign "blanco" which goes across the drive advertising a spa - i think. there is a small plaque on the wall with the hotel name and a rad light up "hotel" sign down the driveway. 3 minutes walk to the metro stop and supermarket which was good. small fridge in the room which we used to store water & small food items. air con and balcony also in room. overall, great value for money and the pool facility was excellent!
Cons: Would be great if they offered breakfast in the price

Pros: Very good location to move around by subway
Cons: -the hotel was being revamped
- the elevator was not working
- too much noise from the swimming pool

Cons: Rude personnel, elevator out of order, dirty swimming pool, no breakfast, clean towels but no clean sheets for 4 days!

Pros: Clean, comfortable room. ok swimming pool. easy location to get to main sites
Cons: Staff were rude and just 'hung around' and made you feel uncomfortable. not very touristy area so trying to eat in restaurant was a little difficult. didnt feel too safe coming home late at night in area.

Pros: The hotel is really nice, the decor is nice and gives you the impression that you're at home
Cons: Although the garden is spacious and looks really nice, the water in the pool was very dirty and the whole garden was a mess

Pros: Good clean value for money. staff were excellent

Pros: Near to metro, very clean, security in the hotel, always hot water
Cons: No breakfast

Pros: It is a nice hotel but the rooms are really small, cleaning services is ok, not great. location is good, near to a subway station but takes between 15 and 20 minutes to get to downtown.

Pros: Great location but directions need to be more accurate.cleanliness and facilities good.would stay again.

Cons: The internet and the elevator were not working during our entire stay and to carry 2 suitcases all the way up to the third floor was quite heavy. we had to ask for assistance and it took quite some trouble to get help with the luggage.
