The Terza Università, literally the Third University, is, as its name suggests, the third university in Rome to be founded. Also sometimes called Roma Tre, the university was founded in 1992 to deal with the enormous influx of students registering for university education at Rome’s Università La Sapienza. The first year it opened, the university had a population of seven thousand students, while in 2004, it counted over forty thousand.
With campuses in the Ostiense/Marconi-San Paolo, Cavour and Castro Pretorio districts, it has eight faculties and 29 departments that offer 75 degree courses of varying level, 66 Masters degree course, 9 continuing education courses, 16 doctorate courses and 2 specialization schools, among other things. The university is also home to the Rome Tre Orchestra, which is currently the only university orchestra in the entire Lazio region. Once you’ve finished taking in the university, head over to Rome’s city center or wander along and admire sights like the Arch of Constantine.
