The Celio district or area of Rome is rich in historical buildings and beautiful landscaped areas, as well as entertainment and fine dining. Near Celio in Rome can be found within easy walking distance the amazing Colosseum. This ancient example of architecture was completed in 80 AD, and at the height of its use could seat up to 50,000 people. Both inner and outer walls are still standing, making this a truly must see landmark. Other famous landmarks include the Arch of Constantine, and the gladiator training school and area now known as Ludus Magnus.
There are many different churches in the Celio area, including the Basilica di Santo Stefano al Monte Celio and the Santi Giovanni e Paolo al Celio, both which date back to between 400 and 500 A.D. Another landmark church is Santo Stefano Rotondo, the first round church built in Italy.
