Amalfi is a world famous town on the Tyrrhenian Sea, located in the province of Salerno in the Southern Italian region of Campania. The beauty of its maritime landscape, its beaches and its mild, yet definitely Southern, climate has allowed this picturesque town to become both an international tourist destination and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Today, the town has the aspect of a characteristic fishing village, with white houses clinging to the rocks of the mountain slopes on which Amalfi is found, crisscrossed by narrow streets and stone stairs.
If you tire of the beach, you can always check out the impressive monuments found in town. The most famous is the Duomo, actually composed of various religious buildings that are interconnected among themselves; the oldest part of the Duomo dates to before the year 833. You should also check out the Museo della Carta, a museum dedicated to the world famous Amalfi paper. Finally, for some natural beauty, check out the Grotta dello Smeraldo, a beautiful sea grotto which can be entered by small boat.
