One of the religious Alghero attractions that appeals to a number of tourists is the Chiesa di Nostra Signora della Misericordia, or the Church of Our Lady of Pity. The church was constructed at the end of the 17th century, most likely around the beginning of the 1660's, because of the wishes of the fraternal order of Gonfalone. Recently, the building has been renovated, but the renovations have not significantly modified the original architectural structures and components of the church.
The bell tower was constructed in a colonial Spanish style, while the interior of the church conserves important works of art. Indeed, here you can find a precious wooden Christ, which dates to the 16th century; one of the most interesting aspects of this wooden sculpture is that the arms are actually adjustable. Besides the wooden Christ, which was originally found in the Church of Saint Francis, the interior of the church also houses quite a few valuable paintings from the Flemish School of art.
