The town of Buonconvento is an important farming and agricultural center near the Sienese Clay Hills. For tourists, this means a chance to sample the culinary delights of the region while visiting Buonconvento, including the white wine and vinsanto of the local Val d’Arbia DOC, or the flavorful white truffles of the nearby hills. The old Sienese portion of the city is still surrounded by the walls that were built to contain it in 1371. See the incredibly well preserved northern gate set in the walls. Visit the town hall, and notice the coats of arms that are still visible from the old podesta. The Sacred Art Museum was created to hold the most important works of art from the areas churches, including works by Matteo di Giovanni. In the area around the town, there are a number of castles, including the fortress and tower of Bibbiano Guiglieschi.
