Once part of the Etruscan League, Chiusi now belongs to Tuscany. Besides a countryside with fine examples of Etruscan tombs, the city offers the chance to view Etruscan relics within the town. In fact, some visitors prefer to stay in Chiusi hotels so they can explore the Etruscan tombs running beneath the surface of the town. You can reach them by way of Via Museo della Cattedrale. Several hotels in Chiusi are not too far from this street and the entrance to the tombs. The actual entryway is through the cloister of the Duomo.

The Dumo is also worth a visit. It is essentially Romanesque but uses older Roman pillars and capitals. There is a Roman mosaic inside as well as 19th century wall paintings by Arturo Viligiardi. You can wander the gardens of the Duomo and see the remains of the Etruscan city’s walls. On a market day, go to Market Square or visit the 13th century Santa Maria della Morte on the same Square. It has a tall flat tower you can see from several rustic accommodations, including discount hotels. Chiusi also has a clock tower near the medieval church of San Francesco.
