Siracusa is located in the southern part of Sicily, Italy. It is best known for its Baroque style and amazing archaeological sites. The Archaeological Park is the best testament to the city’s ancient Greek and Roman heritage. This park is full of amphitheaters, Greek theaters, caves, gardens, spectacular grottoes, and alters. The Santuario della Madonna delle Lacrime is the site of the weeping Madonna statue. Regardless of the visitors’ pilgrim intentions, the basilica in which this statue is held is one of beautiful architecture. The Catacomba di San Giovanni dates from the early fifth century AD. This underground cavern has over 20,000 tombs carved into the walls. Although no corpses remain, sparse sarcophagi and gloomy frescoes are found.
