The province of Teramo is located in the central Italian region of Abruzzo; it is bathed by the Adriatic Sea on the east. The province contains part of the Gran Sasso, the highest mountain formation of the Apennines; it forms part of the Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park. Along the Adriatic coast there are the seaside towns of the province, characterized by sandy beaches and a typical Mediterranean climate. The province also offers a wealth of historical attractions, such as the necropolis of Campovalano, where over ten thousand tombs dating to the period between the 10th and the 3rd century BC have been found. Head to the capital city of the province, also called Teramo, to check out its Cathedral, constructed in 1158, the ancient city walls, and the ancient Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Grazie, also built in the 1100's. For a great combination of history and seaside fun, visit the town of Giulianova; sights here include the historical center, the historical port and the beaches.
