The province of Terni is located in the central Italian region of Umbria. Within its territory, it contains various types of geographical characteristics, including both plains areas and mountainous zones. Within the mountainous zone, there are the Marmore Falls, one of the highest and most beautiful falls in all of Europe; the area also has numerous artificial lakes. Furthermore, the province has two natural parks, created mainly to protect water resources. The area around the capital city, also called Terni, has been inhabited since the Bronze Age and the city preserves a number of interesting archaeological remains to attest to its antiquity. The historical center contains a number of buildings dating to medieval times, including the Cathedral, the Cathedral’s crypt and various towers. For some more history, head to the city of Orvieto. Sights here include the magnificent Gothic Cathedral, constructed in the 13th century and two mysterious and very large wells, constructed in the 16th century. To immerse yourself in a typical Umbrian experience for a weekend, Terni is a wonderful place to visit.
