Accommodation & places to visit in Orvieto

The village of Orvieto is known for two things: wine and history. Orvieto is known for their red and white wines around the world. On the other hand, Orvieto is a town important to the history of Roman Catholics as the place was a temporary refuge of the Pope during the sack of Rome. You will find in this place 13th century structures and among them is the Palazzo del Popolo, used by Pope Clement VII when Rome was under attack. Near the palace is the Pozzo di San Patrizio, an amazingly intricate structure built on the order of the Pope. On the other side of the town is the Torre del Moro, a 47 meter high tower tall enough to see the neighboring village. The Cathedral is among the best Italian structures that features Gothic architecture. In front of the Cathedral is the Faina Archaeological Museum.
