Trapani is a fabulous city in western Sicily, Italy. Although the town is spectacularly beautiful, most travelers only pass through. The seventeenth century Chiesa del Purgatorio is one of those treasured sights. The outer grey exterior camouflages the equally grey and beautiful stone statues. The Sanctuario dell’Annunziata is one of the major attractions of the city. Inside, a fourteenth century statue of the Madonna of Trapani bears a local legend. For those wishing to be enlightened by the artistic history of the town is the Museo Nazionale Pepoli. A large collection of local sculptures, paintings, carvings, and figurines, are housed inside.
