What you need to know before traveling to Trieste

The province of Trieste is located in the northern Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia; it is the smallest Italian province by extension. It borders the Republic of Slovenia on the east and is bathed by the Adriatic Sea (specifically the Gulf of Trieste) in the southeast. There are a number of protected areas within the province, including Miramare Natural Marine Reserve, the Falesie di Duino Natural Reserve and the Monte Lanaro Natural Reserve, among others. Alongside the natural beauty of the province, there is also a wealth of history. For example, a few kilometers north of the capital city of the province, also called Trieste, there is the impressive Miramare Castle; it’s found on the Gulf of Trieste and was built in 1856 for the Archduke of Austria. Head into the capital city to enjoy other interesting sights. Trieste attractions include the Serbian-orthodox Temple, the Cathedral of San Giusto, built in the 14th century, and the various archaeological remains, some of which date to the 2nd century BC. If you’re looking to admire natural beauty for a weekend, Trieste could be the place for you.
