What you need to know before traveling to Udine

The province of Udine is located in the northern Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. In the north, it borders Austria, while in the east it borders the Republic of Slovenia; it also contains part of the Alps and is bathed by the Adriatic Sea. Thanks to its impressive natural beauty, the province contains at least four Natural Parks and a variety of attractions for tourists who enjoy outdoor activities in all seasons. The province is also well known for its rich history; indeed, one of the most important archaeological sites in all of Northern Italy, Aquileia, is found here. This town was founded in 181 BC and contains a Basilica that preserves its 11th century appearance as well as an amazing series of mosaics. For something a little less historical and maybe a bit more relaxing, head to the town of Lignano Sabbiadoro. Attractions here include one of the most popular beach resorts of the upper Adriatic coastline. For some natural beauty and historical sights for a weekend, Udine could be perfect.
