Many Azzate attractions are connected to the powerful family of nobles that ruled the area between the years 1439 and 1657, the Bossi family. The main residence of the family was the castle, built in the 14th century, and transformed into a home for the Bossi family until 1657. Even after rule of Azzate passed to the next noble family, the Bossi family continued to keep a summer residence in Azzate. This was the Villa Bossi Zampolli, built in the 18th century, around 1772, over and around the ancient castle. Today, the original structure of the castle is difficult to make out.

The villa has a U shape and presents itself as composed of three parts at this point. The first part is the medieval castle, the second part is the 18th century villa, while the last part is the collection of cabins ad country homes that are part of the estate belonging to the castle and villa. Some experts consider there to be a fourth part, the Oratory of San Lorenzo. The estate’s grounds, today a park, are especially interesting.
