The Libertà bridge or Liberty Bridge is one of the city of Venice’s later constructions. It only dates from 1933. It runs from the historic center to the mainland. In other words, the Bridge connects Mestre to Venice. Built in 1933, it was the work of Eugene Miozzi. A more modern construction, it was intended to handle cars and trains. The design allowed cars to head across the bridge towards the Piazza Ronale. Trains were directed to Santa Lucia Station. The Libertà bridge opened with great fanfare as Benito Mussolini himself was the special guest. Mussolini was there to open it and give it its name.

The Libertà bridge began as the Ponte Littorio (Littorio bridge). It was to change its name after the events of World War II. The allied troops crossed the bridge to free Venice in 1945. The bridge was renamed to honor them. If you want to be able to reach out and touch Venice, this is a good starting point. Arrange to stay in a affordable budget hotel near Libertà Bridge in Venice.
