You can wander among the graves on the island. They include those of the composer Igor Stravinsky, and American poet and author Ezra Pound. The bodies do not, however, remain here for eternity. After 10-20 years the bones are collected and removed to ossuaries on other islands. You can also visit the Church of San Michele in Isola. It is constructed of Istrian stone. This excellent example of Renaissance architecture dates from 1469. It is the first building in Venice truly exhibiting the Renaissance spirit. The architect was Mauro Codussi. The hexagonal Capella Emiliana (1530) has 3 small altars. The first church made of Istrian stone, it features work by Bernini and his father, Petro Bernini. The Adoration of the Magi is by G. Antonio da Carona.
