If you arrive in Venice by train, you will see the Scalzi Bridge. It is not impossible to find a hotel in Venice is close to the Scalzi Bridge or another crossing. The Scalzi Bridge crosses the Grand Canal near the Railway Station. This accounts for one of its names Ponte del Ferrovia. The Scalzi is also the Barefoot Bridge. It derives this name "Scalzi" from the Church degli Scalzi near it. The bridge joins the Sestieri of Santa Croce to Cannaregio. It is one of 4 bridges to cross the Grande Canal. You would do well to book a budget hotel in Venice close to the Scalzi Bridge. It is close to the canal, the station and the vaporetto stops.

Crossing the bridge can be troublesome during peak hours. It becomes crowded with people carrying baggage. There are merchants hawking their wares nearby. Do try to stop and admire the structure. It was built in 1934 of Istrian stone. Scalzi Bridge replaced a mid 19th century structure. The Austrians had erected a wrought iron bridge on this spot between 1858 and 1860.
