St Mark's square Venice
St. Mark’s Square (Piazza San Marco) is the world’s most romantic square. It is where lovers and shoppers alike come to see some of the famous sights of Venice. It is truly a place to see some of the city’s finest architecture. Byzantine, Gothic and Renaissance structures are all in the confines of this Square. It is no wonder many a visitor tries to find a budget hotel within walking distance of St. Mark’s Square in Venice. They want to sample all of what the city has to offer them. They realize they can find it all within this square.
The Basilica di San Marco dominates the square. Its soaring campanile looks out over all. The torre dell’orologio is the clock tower built between 1496 and 1506. Mauro Codussi is responsible for its overall design. You can visit the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana or the Zeca. The latter is the first city building constructed entirely of stone. If you feel tired, sit down in one of the many small cafés. They are in the Procuratie Vecchie and the Procuratie Nuove. These arcades run on either side of the square. The arcades also contain boutiques, trendy shops, bars and lounges. Is it any wonder cheap hotels close to St. Mark’s Square in Venice are popular among visitors?
