The Church of Santa Maria dei Carmini is often called Santa Maria del Carmelo. It is a small parish church. It has a simple brick and marble façade. It sits beside the Scuola Grande di Santa maria dei Carmini. The Carmelites built the church in the 14th century. Inside, on the arches of the nave, you can see a pictorial history of this order of nuns. It has a Basilica plan.
On the 2nd altar of the right nave, you can see The Adoration of the Shepherds (1509) by Cima da Conegliano. On the left side of the same altar is St. Michael of Baric with Saints Lucy and John the Baptist (1529). Within this landscape painting is an excellent smaller work on St. George and the Dragon. The work is by Lorenzo Lotto. The upper hall floor boasts Tiepolos from 1744. Yet, one of the attractions is the 17th century Campanile. It was saved from toppling in 1688 and remains standing today.
