The province of Vicenza is located in the northern Italian region of Veneto. The capital city of the province, also called Vicenza, is one of the most important cities of art in all of Italy, especially due to the presence of numerous buildings constructed by the famous Renaissance architect, Andrea Palladio. Indeed, the city is also known as “the city of Palladio” and has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The most popular building is the Palladian Basilica, a public space that today houses international art and architecture exhibitions; it was constructed in the 16th century, using a pre-existing Gothic-style building. While the villas and buildings constructed by Palladio are superb, there are also other Vicenza sights to appreciate besides those with Palladio’s mark.
