Fukuoka Prefecture is located on the southern Japanese island of Kyushu. One of Fukuoka´s famous temples is Kushida Shrine which was founded in 757 and has a gingko tree in its grounds said to be over 1000 years old. Shofukuji Temple was the first Zen temple to be built in Japan and dates from 1195. Within the temple grounds you can also find the remains of two earlier temples. The Fukuoka Asian Art Museum has thousands of prints, sculptures, handicrafts and paintings.
