Hyogo Hotels and Accommodation
Hyogo prefecture is a fantastic base from which to explore the delights of Japan. The main city of Hyogo is Kobe which experienced a devastating earthquake in 1995. Fortunately the city was quickly rebuilt, but down by the bay you can see some of the damage done by the earhtquake and a photo display. Mount Rokko, which frames Kobe, has a beautiful panorama and you can take the ropeway to the summit from Shin-Kobe train station. A trip to Hyogo absolutely must include a visit to Himeji Castle. This castle is one of the few that escaped bombing during World War II. It is a stunning example of feudal Japanese architecture and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Dating back to the 14th century, this castle offers a fascinating journey back to the time of samurai.
Famous for its hot springs Arima is the best-known of Hyogo's “onsen”. If you do only one thing on your trip to Japan, this should be it. Hot springs are incredible and Arima is the oldest spa area in Japan. Royalty came to bath here in the mineral waters which are said to be beneficial for everything from back pain to infertility. At Takarazuka you can see the Takarazuka Review and visit the Tezuku Osamu Anime Museum. To explore some of Japan’s natural beauty, an interesting and easy hike can be done from JR Namaze Station. The intriguing thing about this hike is that it follows an unused rail track for 5 kilometers and you can hike through abandoned tunnels.
