"Aranvert Hotel in Kyoto a pleasant surprise"
When I arrived in my hotel in Kyoto I was pleasantly surprised, due to the price I was paying I was expecting a decent but small buisness hotel like the others I had stayed on during my trip to Japan, instead I found a full mode international tourism hotel.Fully manned lobby, big nice rooms, a great location, and on the day of my arrival they were having a fire sending celebration at the roof top, this is a especial holiday in Kyoto in which f bonfires in the shape of Kanji are lighten in the mountains across the city, the location of the hotel allows us to see all of the different characters. In honor of this festival each guest got a complementary yukata, a beautiful summer kimono that I know I will enjoy to lounge around the house. The bed in the room was super comfortable, the bathroom was good size, with a super nice tub, this was probably the most comfortable hotel I stayed on during my trip in Japan. And the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, although they didn't speak a lot of english, they made the effort to comuninicate and help me out in whatever I needed. The location of this hotel is very convenient to move to and from Kyoto station and to explore the city on foot.My only regret on staying in this hotel was that I didn't have the chance to try their bathhouse, as they also have one.

The hotel is about 20 minutes to Kyoto station by walk. Subway and bus are convenient. The room is clean and service is good. The prices between double room and twin room are quite different. The speed of internet is slow. Overall speaking I enjoy my stay in Kyoto in this hotel.

"A nice place to stay, close to restaurants, subway and train station"
The Aranvert is a centrally located hotel with excellent sound isolation to shut out traffic noise. It sits on Gojo-dori near an major intersection with Karasuma-dori, where there is a subway station. There is a McDonald's at that corner. A few steps further down Gojo is a very good Soba restaurant, and a nice restaurant/bar a block beyond that. One subway stop north is the financial center, with many foreign ATMs. This hotel would not change dollars for yen. It is a 15 minute walk from the Kyoto train station, and about 25 minutes walk from Higashiyama. The room was small and very clean. We had two double beds with very firm mattresses. Excellent Toto toilet! The lobby is a bit sparse, with too few seats to accomodate the tour groups that periodically flood the hotel. The only drawback was difficulty in communicating with the staff at the front desk. They had enough English to deal with checking in and out, but more complicated requests were hard to communicate. They did have a number of pre-printed English guides on several topics, The one on where to change money was most helpful. We did a lot of walking, and found many very nice areas nearby that were not listed in the guide books becuase there are so many great areas in the Kyoto area.
