The Cat House in Riga can be found in the country of Latvia. It has a very interesting and humorous story behind the architecture and therefore has become of the most popular tourist attractions in all of Latvia. It has been said that the owner of the building wanted and was then denied membership into the very powerful Great Guild. The Great Guild was apparently located across the street.
Therefore, after he was denied membership he had two cat sculptures built on the roof of his home. The cats were built so their backsides were facing the Guild and their tales were pointed straight up. This was done as a direct insult to the Guild. The building will forever remain famous for this reason and continue to draw tourists to its location. It is a great way to take in a little piece of history and architecture and enjoy a good laugh at the same time.
