Set on the Rotuses Square's eastern corner, the Basilica of Kaunas is a large Gothic religious building that was believed to have been constructed during the 15th century, under the rule of Grand Duke Vytautas the Great. The appearance of the basilica that you can now see is the result of a number of reconstructions that were done during the 15th and 16th centuries. The last feature that was added on to the basilica is its bell tower that was constructed during the 17th century, standing at 165 feet. Easily accessible from the hotels in Kaunas, the basilica is regarded as the biggest Gothic structure in the country. However, the rich Baroque-styled interiors of the church provide a distinct contrast to its exteriors. The ornateness of the Baroque style is evident on the nine altars and the three naves inside the church.
