Located in the eastern part of the city, the Rumsiskes Open-Air Museum is among the best attractions in the city. An ethnographic museum depicting the rural lifestyle of the Lithuanian people, here you will be able to discover such collections as reconstructed and original structures as well as artifacts that were commonly used in the country in the past. The popularity of this museum is equal, if not more, than other attractions in the city like the Museum of Devils, the Kaunas Castle, the Ninth Fort and Kaunas Ghetto.
Covering 175 hectares of land, this ethnographic museum is comprised of some 140 traditional buildings that can be commonly found in the country during the 18th and 19th centuries. Both the exteriors and interiors of these structures have been cleverly restored to inspire a genuine feeling of the place such that it feels like it belongs to the past. The open-air museum is also a famous venue for festivals that are traditionally held in the country in the past. Other events held in the museum include contests featuring folk dances and songs.
