It is possible to see the Geographical Centre of Europe and you can see this in Lithuania. Some 26 kilometres to the northern area of Vilnius, this geographical centre can be found near the Purnuokes village and it is regarded as one of the best attractions in Vilnius. It was the National Institute of Geography of France that marked this point in 1989 and it was set up as a nature reserve in the year 1991. Otherwise known as the European Park, the reserve covers the Bernotai Hill, Girija Lake and the archaeological site that was said to be a former burial ground for the pagans. There are fields and woods that surround the park as well. For a trip, check with your Vilnius hotel.

You can access the Geographical Center of Europe if you will drive up to the road of Kalvariju from some of the main hotels in Vilnius. In 2004, the exact spot of this center was marked with a concrete column adorned at the top with a crown of stars. Made by the sculptor Gediminas Jokûbonis, the monument depicts the historical connections of Lithuania and its momentous comeback to the folds of the European Nations. Other significant attractions in the city include the Gediminas Castle, the Radvila Palace, the Pavilniai Regional Park and the Presidential Palace.
