One of the most fascinating religious attractions in Vilnius that you can find is the Kenessa which is close to many Vilnius accomodations. Being a temple, this attractive building serves as the house of prayer for the Karaite, which is a religious community in the city. Constructed in 1922 following the Moorish style of architecture, the Kenessa's significance can be likened to esteem that we give most religious structures like the Vilnius Cathedral, the Church of St. Anne, St. Nicholas' Church and St. Catherine's Church. Located in Liubarto, the Kenessa can be easily accessed if you are staying in one of the hotels in Vilnius. It would be quite interesting to visit this structure, as it was closed for some time and utilized as a warehouse before serving its original purpose again. Another thing of interest about the temple is that the people who use it as their place of worship is the smallest of its kind in the city. There are only some 150 Karaite members who are permanently settled in Lithuania starting the 14th century, after they emigrated here from Ukraine. These people have Mesopotamian roots, although they do not believe in the Talmud, but are known to stick to the Decalogue and the Old Testament.
