There are many old churches in Lithuania. But, if you are looking to discover the oldest of them all, then you must head on to the St. Nicholas Church, which is definitely one of the attractions in Vilnius that you must make a point to see. Aside from being the oldest church in the whole country, the St. Nicholas Church is also the oldest Gothic structure that is still standing in Vilnius. The church, which can be accessed from most of the major hotels in Vilnius, was constructed by German merchants during the year 1320. This was way before the Lithuanians embraced Christianity. Between the years 1920 and 1939, during the occupation of Vilnius by the Polish, the St. Nicholas' Church was the only religious structure in the city where the people of Lithuania were permitted to attend mass.
